Taiwan launches tourism ad campaign in New York

June 22, 2011

A promotional campaign with the slogan “Travel to Taiwan, Be Moved 100 Percent,” organized by the Tourism Bureau as part of its efforts to market Taiwan as a top travel destination, kicked off in New York City June 20.

Advertisements highlighting Taiwan’s tourist attractions are being placed on well-known tour buses in New York City to attract some of the millions of international visitors to the city during the busy summer travel season, the bureau said.

“The main aim of this activity is to introduce Taiwan to the world by letting tourists to New York during the high season see the island’s beauty,” said Kao Chen-chun, director of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York.

In addition to placing the bus advertisements, the bureau will also have ads displayed on 10 telephone booths in the city’s borough of Queens to draw some of the growing number of Asian residents there to visit Taiwan, Kao said.

Thomas Chang, director of the Tourism Bureau’s New York office, pointed out that more than 46 million tourists visit the city every year.

“The bureau hopes the ads will entice these tourists as well as local residents to choose Taiwan as their next travel destination to enjoy the island’s brilliant sites and scenery and tasty delicacies,” Chang said. (SB)
